Every Malaysian individual return is submitted through LHDN's own e-Filing service on MyTax, which is free. Other tools help you get ready: CukaiMax tracks reliefs and receipts during the year, HASiL's Excel calculator estimates your tax, a spreadsheet works if you are disciplined, and a tax agent suits complex cases. None of them replaces MyTax for submission.
Which tax filing tools can Malaysians use in 2026?
There are five realistic options for individuals. Only MyTax submits the return; the rest prepare you for it.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| LHDN MyTax e-Filing | Submitting Form BE or Form B | Web | Yes (government service) | mytax.hasil.gov.my |
| HASiL e-Kalkulator | A one-off tax estimate | Excel file | Yes | hasil.gov.my |
| CukaiMax | Tracking reliefs and receipts all year | Web, iOS | Yes (Free plan) | cukaimax.com |
| Spreadsheet | People who like doing it by hand | Excel, Google Sheets | Yes | None |
| Tax agent | Business, rental or foreign income | In person or online | No | Tax professional directory |
Which tax year am I filing in 2026 and 2027?
The filing season for YA 2025 (income earned in 2025) has closed. The next one is YA 2026, filed in 2027.
For YA 2025, LHDN's 2026 filing programme set Form BE at 30 April 2026 (e-Filing grace to 15 May 2026) and Form B at 30 June 2026 (e-Filing grace to 15 July 2026). If you missed these, file as soon as possible on MyTax; late filing can bring a penalty.
LHDN has not yet published the 2027 programme. If it follows the 2026 pattern, e-Filing for YA 2026 opens on 1 March 2027, Form BE is due 30 April 2027 (15 May 2027 for e-Filing) and Form B is due 30 June 2027 (15 July 2027 for e-Filing). Treat these as projected until LHDN confirms them. See our tax deadline guide for updates.
What does each tool do well, and where does it fall short?
LHDN MyTax e-Filing
MyTax is LHDN's portal for e-Filing, payment and other e-services. It is the only way to file online, and it is free.
- Good: official, direct submission, and employer data sent through C.P.8D can be pre-filled from 1 March.
- Limits: it does not track receipts during the year. You type each relief amount yourself and must keep the evidence elsewhere.
HASiL is also running a pilot for YA 2026 that may pre-fill some relief amounts from e-Invoice data, so it asked taxpayers in May 2026 to request e-Invoices for relief purchases. Keep your own receipts anyway; pre-fill does not prove a purchase is eligible.
HASiL e-Kalkulator
HASiL publishes a free Excel tax calculator on its Kira dan Kalkulator Cukai page. The latest file is for YA 2025; there is no YA 2026 version yet.
- Good: official rates and reliefs, works offline.
- Limits: a spreadsheet you fill in once. It does not save receipts or track caps during the year.
CukaiMax
CukaiMax is a relief and receipt tracker for Malaysian individual taxpayers. You upload receipts by photo or by email forwarding, and it tracks each relief against its LHDN cap as you go. It does not submit your return; you still file on MyTax.
- Free plan: unlimited receipt uploads, tax calculators and relief tracking. No credit card.
- Personal plan (RM99 a year): adds receipts ZIP and CSV export, an LHDN audit-pack ZIP of accepted proof, email receipt forwarding and full tax-summary PDF exports.
- Storage: receipts are kept encrypted for seven years, matching how long LHDN expects you to keep records.
- Limits: it is built for individuals. It does not do bookkeeping, invoicing or company tax.
Details are on the pricing page.
Spreadsheet
A spreadsheet costs nothing and you control every cell.
- Good: free and flexible.
- Limits: no receipt storage, no cap checks, and errors are easy to miss. You still re-type everything into MyTax.
Tax agent
A licensed tax agent prepares and files for you and can deal with LHDN on your behalf.
- Good: suits business, rental, foreign or capital income, and audits.
- Limits: fees vary by firm and complexity, and you still need to collect your receipts. Ask for a quote up front; our tax professional directory lists firms with source-dated public pricing.
How do I choose?
Match the tool to how complicated your return is.
- Salary only, few reliefs: MyTax alone is enough. Use HASiL's calculator or the CukaiMax income tax calculator to check the figure first.
- Salary plus several reliefs (lifestyle, medical, insurance, childcare): a tracker such as CukaiMax or a careful spreadsheet saves the end-of-year receipt hunt. File on MyTax.
- Business, rental or foreign income: consider a tax agent, at least for the first year.
How much is a missed relief worth?
A relief cuts your chargeable income, so its value depends on your top tax band. Under the resident rates LHDN publishes for YA 2023 to YA 2025:
| Chargeable income | Rate on that slice | Tax saved per RM1,000 of relief |
|---|---|---|
| RM35,001 to RM50,000 | 6% | RM60 |
| RM50,001 to RM70,000 | 11% | RM110 |
| RM70,001 to RM100,000 | 19% | RM190 |
| RM100,001 to RM400,000 | 25% | RM250 |
Claim only what you can prove with a receipt. A few common caps for YA 2025 and YA 2026: lifestyle (books, computers, phones, tablets, internet) RM2,500, sports RM1,000, EPF RM4,000, life insurance RM3,000, and education and medical insurance RM4,000. Gym fees count under sports, not lifestyle. See the full relief list.
What changes are proposed for YA 2027?
Budget 2027, tabled on 9 October 2026, proposes changes from YA 2027 (income earned in 2027, filed in 2028). These are proposals until the Finance Bill is passed.
- Individual relief would rise from RM9,000 to RM12,000.
- The 19% band (RM70,001 to RM100,000) would fall to 18%, and the 25% rate on RM100,001 to RM150,000 would fall to 24%.
- The rate on RM1,000,001 to RM2,000,000 would rise from 28% to 30%.
They do not affect YA 2025 or YA 2026 returns. Details: Budget 2027 tax measures.
